Thinklings Books Writing Contests
Thinklings currently sponsors two writing contests but plans on adding two more in the next year. We try to keep our entry fees low, but to cover the cost of administration, and to keep only earnest writers applying, we do have nominal entry fees.
Learn more below about the specific contests. Once submissions for the contests have finished, we'll send out a link for voting on The Readers' Collective and have it available on the website.
Ana Cabral Literary Contest
A little about the Ana Cabral Literary Contest
Since 2015, Jeannie Ingraham, our CMO, has hosted high school foreign exchange students from all over the world. Ana Barbara Martins Cabral from Brazil was the last student to be placed with her. The match seemed perfect: Ana was a talented, aspiring novelist and poet; and, like Jeannie, she also had a severe gluten allergy. The year went by in a flash, with Jeannie and Ana working on several stories together. But as the year drew to a close, tragedy struck.
Ana, barely 17, had a catastrophic brain aneurysm in the middle of a Friday night and never woke up again. No one ever expects sudden, traumatic deaths such as this, but especially not with a healthy teenage girl. In honor of Ana, and keeping in line with her aspirations and ideals, Thinklings started the Ana Cabral Literary Contest. Half of all contest proceeds will go to support women's education in South America.
To qualify for the prize, writers should:
1. Be previously unpublished
2. Be under the age of 30
3. Have a full-length (at least 40,000 words) manuscript
4. Be writers of genre fantasy
5. Be aiming at the middle-grade or young-adult crowds
