For every book we release, we'll be sure to post a review of it during the week before the book comes out. Our next book, The Blessed by Remy Apepp, comes out on September 1st. This review comes from Betty Christie. Take it away, Betty. . . . The young man Lux awakens feeling great pain, hunger, and confusion, with absolutely no memory of his past or identity. He wonders why he is wearing chains around his ankles and wrists. Standing beside his bed is a man named Illiaz, who is kind, helpful, and – maybe? – Lux’s friend. The Blessed (2022) is in the series Tales from the Mythusian Empire by Remy Apepp. The series also includes Sand to Glass (2021). The Tales from the Mythusian Empire books can be read in any order. Lux, born a prince, was a warrior and later the top gladiator in the Arena, where he fiercely fought and slayed accursed monsters. But Lux had problems, too, and when those problems caught up with him and he needed help, only Illiaz understood him. Lux and Illiaz became real people to me, and while I was reading, I was in their world. I felt like I knew them. I understood their pains and their hopes, their challenges and how they handled them. Their friendship was what I feel friendship should be, having its ups and downs but always truly there. The ending was exactly what it needed to be. I recommend The Blessed to anyone who likes a story that’s outside our universe, but tangles with some pretty ordinary issues, like pain, fear and doubt, courage, determination, and friendship – all happening to some characters you won’t soon forget. I give The Blessed five stars. Our thanks to Betty! You can read the first few scenes of The Blessed free in Remy's blog here. This dark literary fantasy is perfect for fans of Anne Rice books.
