For every book we release, we’ll be sure to post a review of it around the time the book comes out. Our next book, The Taskmaster by Katherine Vick, the final installment of the Plot Bandits “trilogy,” will be published on June 20th. This review comes from Liz Marsh.
Take it away, Liz. . . .
The Taskmaster is the fourth and – sadly! – the final volume in Katherine Vick’s series The Plot Bandits. Its opening chapter follows on from where the previous volume ended, in the middle of a huge fight which appeared to be going rather badly for at least one of our heroes, and a lot of things are happening to different people very quickly right from the start. The story pulls you in and you have to keep reading until the end, just to find out what happens to the quirky characters you have come to care deeply about over the course of the previous three books. Katherine Vick has taken the standard fantasy tropes, turned them on their heads, and given them a good shake; and just when you think you have settled into that, she spins them again in yet another direction, yet somehow still making perfect sense within her world. Trying to avoid giving spoilers here, but I must say that I loved Fodder’s pranking of the Merry Band and the way in which it is later twisted. The final resolution of the entire series brings all of the loose ends together in a satisfying manner, although there is more than enough suspense on the way to make you fear for the fate of our heroes. Vick has a wonderful way with words and an engaging, easy-to-read style throughout. It has been a great pleasure to read all her books and I now intend to go back and reread them. I do hope that she writes more in the future – I will be one of the first in line for any future books! Our thanks to Liz! You can read an exciting excerpt from The Taskmaster in Katherine’s blog here. This hilarious fantasy adventure is perfect for fans of Terry Pratchett or Christopher Moore. The Plot Bandits series does need to be read in order, or you’ll lose the plot! ;) Also check out Katherine’s author interview for this book here. Coming next week: a character interview with Prince Dullard and Princess Pleasance; and the week after: our top 10 favorite quotes from The Taskmaster!
