For every book we release, we’ll feature an interview with one or two of its major characters. This week we sat down to chat with Captain Arun Sindale from our next book, Skate the Seeker by Jeff Ayers, which comes out on September 12th. Let’s see what the stalwart soldier had to say. Thinklings: How do you feel about Skate? Sindale: She’s smart. Driven, too. With a bit of muscle on her and enough training, she’ll make a fine fighter. She’s stubborn—won’t listen the first time she’s told something, won’t do it unless she understands why she’s doing it. She’d make a poor soldier. T: What did you learn during your journey with Skate and company? S: I’ve gotten more history than I’ve ever cared to learn. There’ve been lessons about fighting them that aren’t alive. Hard lessons, with scars to match. T: What was the worst part of your journey? S: The towers—in the forest, near the city. The smells, the monsters outside. I’m used to hard traveling. I’m no monster hunter. I lost friends. That’s no new thing for a soldier, but it’s never good. T: The best part? S: Tasting the food of my homeland was something I never expected to do again. Seeing the familiar sights, speaking the tongue again—it was good to see the southern kingdom again, despite the circumstances. T: What do you hope to do in the near future? S: I’ll get the girl where she needs to go. If I survive, I’ll return to service of the House of Lain; the prince is generous to them that serve well. Who knows what promotions or gifts may await me on a victorious return? T: What do you think of Rattle? S: That thing isn’t natural. Good in a fight and protective of the girl, but it’s nothing I’ll ever be comfortable with. (Aww, we love you, Rattle!) Thanks, Captain! We’re sure you’ll keep doing an excellent job of protecting Skate and her friends, and we hope you don’t get stabbed or bitten so much in the next book! Skate the Seeker will be available next week in paperback and e-book formats! It’s perfect for fans of Six of Crows and Lockwood and Co.
