Spring has sprung! We hope winter didn’t drag-on too long for you. The knights are getting shorter and fairy soon the weather will warm up (we Northerners hope...). To make a long story short, we were inspired to spring into action with another list of great book recommendations! Today we’re bringing you ten awesome short-story anthologies, mostly of the fantasy and sci-fi variety. (We’ll keep the descriptions short and sweet for you as well!) 1. Vampires: A Collection of Original Stories by Jane Yolen: thirteen stories ranging from funny to spooky. 2. The Dragon Book ed. Jack Dann and Gardner Dozois: never-before-published stories by Jonathan Stroud, Naomi Novik, Gregory Maguire, Diana Gabaldon, and other bestselling authors. 3. The Green Man: Tales from the Mythic Forest ed. Ellen Datlow and Terry Windling: fifteen stories and three poems from authors including Neil Gaiman, Charles de Lint, Tanith Lee, Patricia A. McKillip, and Midori Snyder. 4. “M” Is for Magic by Neil Gaiman: eleven stories that will chill or amuse you and often surprise you. 5. Across the Wall by Garth Nix: includes one novella set in the Old Kingdom, two Arthurian-inspired stories, a Western, a war story, and more. 6. Japanese Fairy Tales compiled by Yei Theodora Ozaki: imbued with a flavor of respect for elders, and good detail and character development. 7. Not One Damsel in Distress: Heroic Girls from World Folklore by Jane Yolen: fifteen folktales from diverse cultures all around the world. 8. Curses, Inc. and Other Stories by Vivian Vande Velde: ten stories showing the often unexpected results of enchantments and magic spells. 9. Wonders of the Invisible World by Patricia A. McKillip: lush, opulent tales of knights, princesses, angels, mermaids, wizards, and more. 10. The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson: aside from the haunting classic tale, includes twenty-four other stories ranging from hilarious to unsettling.
