6. Night Watch (Night Watch #1) by Sergei Lukyanenko: The Others are an ancient race of magic-users and supernatural beings, both Dark and Light. The forces of Light (the Night Watch) are tasked with keeping the forces of Dark in check. Light magician Anton meets a powerful, cursed Other who has yet to choose a side, and together they must keep their kind from destroying the world.

7. The Devil You Know (Felix Castor #1) by Mike Carey: Freelance exorcist Felix Castor accepts a case at a London museum that should have been a simple, straightforward job . . . but it quickly turns into a free-for-all with a bunch of ghosts and demons all trying to kill him.

10. Storm Front (Dresden Files #1) by Jim Butcher: Professional wizard Harry Dresden is called in for a consult by the Chicago P.D. There’s been a double homicide with black magic involved. Harry’s on the case, but the murderer now has their sights set on him.

11. The Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo: Criminal mastermind Kaz Brekker and his crew must break into the most secure fortress in their world, to rescue a scientist whose invention could wreak havoc. In the second book, the crew is out for revenge, with their whole city pitted against them.
